Auping Kiruna horsehair top mattress
The ticking
The ticking is the top layer of the top mattress.
The Kiruna horsehair top mattress has a woven damask finish made from cotton and pure horsehair. Damask is a luxurious, finely woven fabric. Both cotton and horsehair have hollow fibres with very good moisture absorption, so you get a good night’s sleep and wake up feeling fresh.
The core
The inside of the Kiruna horsehair top mattress is made from Latex Pura, which is a material consisting of a large percentage natural latex that has very good ventilation. This latex has been specially developed for Auping and is produced in a sustainable way. It has a meshed pattern that provides extra resilience and feels soft with good ventilation.

How well can you recycle our mattresses?
About 35 million mattresses are discarded and thrown away in Europe alone every year. Many mattresses are burned or end up on the rubbish dump. At Auping, we want to do this differently. Better.
Mattresses are difficult to recycle due to the complex composition of glued materials. At Auping, we develop mattresses that are as recyclable as possible. Auping Inizio scores a B label.
The materials can be reused continuously to make new mattresses. That is circular.
Don’t be ashamed. A big part of the materials is reused to make, for example, a judo mat or sound insulation. We call it downcycling.
The materials are ground down into granules that are burned in the incinerator. The heat released in this process is used to generate electricity.
The materials end up as landfill.
Did you know that a lot of mattresses end up in the rubbish dump unnecessarily? Therefore, always take your old mattress to an Auping store or waste disposal station for the best possible processing.
